EU Biodiversity Workshop: Uses of Innovative Financial Instruments and Approaches to Enhance Private Sector Finance of Biodiversity
3 May 2011
Brussels, Belgium
This workshop brought together EC and EIB/EDRD officials, alongside experts in biodiversity projects and biodiversity and ecosystem services financing. The aim of this workshop was to reflect on the prioritisation process for engaging private sector financing of biodiversity, and to discuss detailed possible actions on the project’s three prioritised areas:
• Market-based Instruments
• Green Infrastructure
• Supporting Carbon Credit Actions
The workshop also addressed the crosscutting areas of 1) risk within the financial instruments that could potentially assist biodiversity, and 2) information about biodiversity in investments. Finally, participants discussed ways in which EU institutions can support better biodiversity actions and the specific priority areas outlined above. The GDI was discussed during the presentation on Green Infrastructure.
