4th GDI Expert Meeting
25-27 March 2012
National Confederation of Industry Brazil (CNI)
São Paulo, Brazil
The 4th Expert Meeting of the Green Development Initiative on the business case for registered BioAreas, co-hosted by Earthmind and the Life Institute with support from the Government of the Netherlands, was held from 25 to 27 March 2012 in São Paulo, Brazil.
The intention of this expert meeting was to facilitate further consideration of a promising modality for resource mobilisation – the voluntary engagement of the private sector in the supply and the demand for BioAreas. More specifically, the expert meeting explored the business case for this approach, how it relates to other private sector biodiversity approaches, its contribution to the CBD and RIO+20 processes, and the steps needed to scale up. The meeting did not draft formal recommendations, but rather sought to enhance understanding among participants with a view to facilitate further development of this approach. The meeting included a mix of keynote presentations, invited interventions from the participants, and working group discussions.
