Organised by GDI Board Member, Lucy Mortimer, a roundtable on discussion with the private sector on the GDI took place in London. GDI consultants and private sector experts in areas such as biodiversity, carbon trading, product certification and sustainability met to explore the usefulness of the GDI to the private sector and its future development.
The roundtable also highlighted a number of key issues such as fundamental difference between developing a market approach for biodiversity and the commodity-based, carbon-credit approach development for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The opportunities to secure private sector support for biodiversity, particularly with respect to mitigating supply chain risks and enhancing corporate sustainability, were also explored.
